hannah chang, Creature conserve scholarship recipient

“In addition to art, I hope to be a future researcher & science communicator in marine biology and conservation. I envision spreading awareness to future generations with my research and art about the importance of helping endangered animals and improving our environment.”

As a 2022 Scholarship Recipient, Hannah shadowed biologists working for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, DEM to gain a better understanding of the methods they use in the field to monitor wildlife. She was especially excited about the bat counts and bee surveys and created several illustrations for general audiences designed to inspire their curiosity about these amazing creatures.

HANNAH CHANG is currently studying marine biology at the University of Hawai’i. She is a recent graduate in illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design, with a concentration in scientific inquiry. A detail-oriented person, Hannah enjoys mostly traditional, mixed media such as watercolor, marker, colored pencil, and also 3D work, especially in clay making.
