2018

Sophy Tuttle, a University of Hartford Art School MFA student, received a scholarship to support her work as Visiting Artist at the Mystic Aquarium. Sophy’s artwork highlights human impacts on aquatic animal life. For more of her work see sophytuttle.com.


2017

Recent RISD graduate Samrath Kaur (smrth.net) received a scholarship to support his work as Visiting Artist at the Mystic Aquarium. Samrath’s artwork highlights the marine mammal rescue program.

RISD student Alex Suarez received a scholarship to support his work as Foster Parrots Visiting Artist. Alex worked with the staff of Foster Parrots to promote their “No Cage Is Big Enough” program. Dr. Spelman is also on the board of Foster Parrots, Ltd

 

2016

Emily Schnall received a scholarship to support her work as a Summer Intern for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, IFAW.  Her work focused on the problem of "tiger selfies."

 

Rae Whiteley received a scholarship to support their work as Visiting Artist at the Mystic Aquarium. Rae explored the many connections between keepers/ trainers and the animals in their care. The result was an exhibition of her work on public display, the first of its kind at the Aquarium, and some great media coverage. Thanks to Rae, the Visiting Artist program has continued. Derek Miranda received a scholarship to support his work as a Summer Intern for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, IFAW. His work focused on the problem of shark finning and its impact on all whale species, especially the whale shark.
